Crawford Lake: Layers in Time

Saturday November 21st
10:00AM-1:45PM
Crawford Lake Conservation Area

Join the Iroquoia Bruce Trail Club for a special History Hike at Crawford Lake, beginning with a talk and Q&A with Bryan Davies, author and publisher of Layers in Time: The Crawford Lake Story.

Tucked into the Niagara Escarpment, Crawford Lake is a remarkable place where 12,000 years of geological history, Indigenous stories, scientific discovery, family heritage, and artistic inspiration converge. Its undisturbed lake sediments offer a rare record of environmental change, while generations of people connected to its shores have left behind stories that reach far beyond this small corner of Southern Ontario.

Drawing on his book, Bryan will introduce us to the many layers of Crawford Lake’s history, from its post-Ice Age origins and Indigenous connections to the Crawford family’s Scottish heritage and the poetry, art, and memories inspired by this special place.

Following the talk, we’ll head out onto the trails to experience the landscape firsthand, carry the conversation forward, and explore the stories beneath our feet.
